This week in the Modern Quilt Block Series we are sewing up the Shift block. Using color to create movement in this block, adds a variety of layout options. Follow along as I continue designing and sharing a new block pattern each week!

The first thing to note, is making this block is simple, there’s just one seam to match, and no triangles to create. And the few small pieces included in the block are quickly sewn into a four-patch unit. After that, making this block is fun and not overcomplicated – I hope you will give it a try!

In the video, I walk you through the simple construction of this block. Selecting multiple fabrics to showcase in this block will add movement and interest to your quilt top. As usual, I’ve included pressing instructions in the pattern to make sure you know all the next steps to keep moving forward with your project. By using simple blocks like this one in your quilts, allows the focus to be on the fabrics, and you to better your sewing skills as you sew!

This week the Shift block is free, next week it will be available for purchase in my shop.

Pin now, sew later

Save to your favorite quilting boards for inspiration when you need it!

I hope you have a creative week!
